Sports policy and guidelines

 Rationale

Sport is an outdoor activity that encourages education in skill and personal development. It also binds students together socially and helps students work as a team. It is important because it is one of the three domains of learning. In order for it to be positively executed there must be an effective sport program, policy and guidelines.

AIM

    1. Development and maintenance of physical fitness.
    2. Increase participation levels.
    3. Help students progress their level of sport along a series of sport programs.
    4. Include involvement from different students (inclusivity).

Objective

By the end of the year students will have participated in different sport activities, improve a variety of skills, understand rules of certain sport and overall balanced the three domains of learning.

IMPLEMENTATION

1. Days and times

    • Sport day for the school both lower and upper primary is observed on Wednesdays.
    • Elementry ECE, grade 1, grade 2 will have their sport at first block (9:00 am – 10:00 am). Grades 3, 4 and 5 will be on second block (11:00 am – 12:00 mid-day). Grade 6, 7 and 8 will have their sport third block (2:00 pm – 3:00 pm).
    • All games will be played for 60 minutes/hour.
    • All games will stop at; Elementary – 10:00 am, Lower primary – 12:00 mid-day, Upper primary – 3:00 pm.

2. House colors – sport uniforms

      • House colors are plain blue, red, yellow and green round neck shirt and plain white short.
      • House names are, Blue – Tarangau, Red – Kumul, Yellow – Kokomo and Green – Guria.
      • Sports shoes are to be worn and not school, thongs or sandals.
      • Sports uniform are to be checked by duty teachers and sports committee every sports day (mornings).

3. Teachers

      • All teachers should be in their correct sports uniform on sport day (house color collar and black shorts)
      • All teachers should be with their students taking part during sports day.

4. Discipline

      • Disciplinary forms will be given to students not in proper uniform.
      • The forms must be signed by parents or guardians and returned to school.
      • A student with three consecutive forms given will face the disciplinary committee.

5. Points for proper sports uniform

      • A total of 20 points will be given to houses in their correct uniform every week.
      • From the 20 points, 1 point will be deducted for a student or teacher in incorrect uniform.

6. Draws and Results

      • Sport draw will be announced on Wednesday
      • Points will be awarded as follows: 1st team – 5 points, 2nd team – 3 points, 3rd team – 2 points and 4th team – 1 point.
      • Points or scores will be given to coordinators straight after the games.
      • Sports and uniforms results will be announced on Mondays and displayed in graphs forms infront of the office for viewing.
      • Total points for each house will be added and announced at the end of each term.

7. Student Participation and Performance

      • Teachers will look out for students who participate well and perform actively.
      • Teachers will make sure that house captains, vice captains and prefects perform their duties well.

8. Sports Equipment

      • Sports Equipment will be kept together in the upper primary sports coordinator’s classroom.
      • Teachers requiring in the use of sports equipment must be requested in advance.
      • Sports equipment will be used for school purposes only.
      • Damaged sports equipment must be reported immediately.

BUDGET

The funds allocated for this area shall be entrusted to the administration to purchase/cater for all equipment and activities for the term/year.

EVALUATION

      • This policy will be reviewed by the sports committee every end of the term when the needs arises.
      • This policy is a guideline that help us run effective and enjoyable sports program in the school.
